[B]ooks and [M]ovies
1. The very first week of the 4th semester has just passed by. A new semester with not so many courses but their requirements are quite hard. A great deal of further reading, surfing the internet for extra information and lots of projects, assignments or presentation to carry out has filled up my 3 days off from Wed to Fri. This is to some extent good for me as I am likely to get bored spending 3 days doing nothing but just sleep and eat [like a pig]. Studying too many materials in English has inspired me to write this entry in English, though it's so long a time that I don't write any.
2. The final results of the last semester are available now, but just those of the major courses. My scores are quite good, yet a little bit not acceptable as I have made almost no progress in the Phonetics, which I had forced myself to study hard. However, it's not a big problem as some students in my class as well as those in the faculty are worrying that they may fail some courses. I do hope they won't. I'm now waiting for the results of the General Courses. If I don't fail any, I will probably be able to keep the scholarship. That's good.
3. I'm studying Public speaking, Intro to culture and Intro to linguistics this semester. I've just spent 2 periods with Public speaking and Intro to culture, the very first period of Linguistics is on this Saturday. These courses are quite interesting. I have the chance to know more about many cultures on Earth and also chance to make presentation individually on my favorite subjects. A promising semester with a lot of hard work and interesting things to come, I suppose.
4. I really don't know what to say next.hehe. Just because I'm more familiar with writing academically than just a kind of diary like this. I need a topic to develop my entry, not just telling you what I've done in the previous week. I can also insert some of my latest photos to this entry, but what a pity all the photos are stored in my computer in the dorm. Ahh mannn...what should I do?
5. There was a short break between this paragraph and the above one as I stopped to have breakfast and lying on bed for a while trying to find something to continue my writing. Then it flashed on my mind the the entry about books and movies which I once planned to write after the Tet holiday, but my laziness has hesitated it until now. So let's talk about reading books and watching movies now ^^
6. I used to prefer reading to watching. Since I was still a little child, yet having the ability to read, I did read books. Of course I couldn't read any words at that time, read here is that I just sat in my mom's lap, listening to her warm voice telling me the story in the picture book and my eyes meanwhile were stuck into it. Interestingly, I did remember what my mom told me, so I surprised other people by reading the book again to them, actually I just told the story from my memory.
Since then, I've read lots of books - or writing materials - from newspapers to magazines, from comic books to fictions. I read whatever books I could find, wherever and whenever. I love the feelings of lying on bed, holding the book in my hands, letting my imagination fly with the fantastic words in the book. Each book opens a totally new world for me, in which I'm an adventurer together with the protagonists and other characters. I love the inspiration the author gave me, embedded in the story. I sometimes get upset for a whole day or more after reading a sad story, or a tragedy. It can possibly become an obsess.
So I love books very much. I always try to save as much money as possible to enlarge my book collections, though my room is more and more too small to store them.
7. One chief reason that I read books more than watch movies is that I haven't got enough facilities to enjoy movies. There is no cinema in my hometown, and I neither got DVD player nor Cable TV at home. So the only way to entertain is to read. Things have been, however, dramatically changed recently. I moved to the city to carry out my university and as a result had chances to come to the cinema for several times. I was deeply impressed at the first time I watched a movie in a large cinema. Extreme wide-screen, surrounded 3D sound, comfortable seats, delicious pop-corn and many other things make the movie much better than just sitting in front of my tiny TV set. Cinema and movies are fabulous!!!.
I then started to collect many blockbusters that I had only heard of their fame before. Now I'm completely up-to-date. I know what are on the cine right now, as well as which movies are on the way to the Oscar. I can join in the discussion about movies with my friends, which I used to be left outside because of my poor knowledge about it. I also hunt the DVDs of the latest blockbusters to enjoy. It's indeed a good feeling to tell your friend that "Oh, the XYZ film? I've just watched it. It's really kooool!!!" :D
8. Movies don't let my imagination fly like books do, but they inspire me with their lively and true effects. While a sad story can only make me feel deeply touched, a movie can even make me burst into tears, thanks to the soundtrack or the excellent acting of the actors/actresses. I love such feelings very much.
9. There is still a long long list of movies I want to watch, yet the problem is I haven't have time to do it. I'll try to watch at least one movie every fortnight. I also have some books to read, but reading a book is quite easier, as I can read some pages before sleep or during noon time at school, not having to spend about 2h as to watch a film.
In conclusion, I do love both reading and watching. It just seems that I fancy movies more than books right now.
10. How surprised am I to see that I've written a considerable long entry. Just too lazy to check for grammatical and vocabulary errors. Hope you enjoy my writing.
